The Finer Things

After the unexpected success and positive feedback from our first release, “Brooklyn’s Finest” (released 6/1/10), we’re back with our sophomore effort, “THE FINER THINGS” (volumes 1 & 2). Sonically we’re taking you on a completely different journey, however, the distinctive vibe of The Stuyvesants is still very present in the music! We truly appreciate all of the support for our movement thus far, and hope that you will enjoy this soundscape. Download and/or listen to the two albums below.

Stoops Parks & Rooftops

Today is the first day of summer and to get things started off right (despite the clouds hanging over BK right now), we put together a Single that captures the feeling of summer in Brooklyn with some help from Naturel — the third member of The Stuyvesants. BK Summers are always incredible from the BBQs, the cookouts, & the fish fries to the rooftop parties & random beach excursions. So take a listen, vibe out, and enjoy the summer…

Aaliyah — “Heartbroken”

R.I.P. Aaliyah

Aaliyah — “Heartbroken” prod. by Timbaland

Sidenote: For the record Timbland is a much better R&B producer than he is a HipHop producer.

I used to have the biggest celeb crush on her back in high school, LOL. I remember the day I woke up to make the move from MD to NYC for college. That same morning the news story came out about her passing. Made the move away from home just a little more scarier for me. Then to make matters worse, 2 weeks later the 9/11 tragedy hit NY. :-/

The Stuyvesants on East Village Radio

I’m just gonna hi-jack D’s post since it pretty much says everything I want to say, LOL.

[Edit: That’s me on the left.] Hahaha…we (The Stuyvesants) were invited by DJ Jon Oliver to come and do a guest spot on his set, The Main Ingredient on East Village Radio last night (BIG shout out to Jon!). We had a blast answering questions, talking about the album, art, life, and good music. If you missed it, you can check it out here.

By the way, our listening party for “The Stuyvesants” album will be held this Friday, August 13th at CLOUD in Bed-Stuy…hit me up for details! Hope you all can come out…

Dear Summer

Dear Summer (Instrumental)

The Stuyvesants

First off, I’ve got to apologize to anybody who I’ve had to lead off the scent by (white) lying to make this project happen as discreetly as possible. I also, have to apologize for some of the flakiness that some folks may have experienced from me during the final stages of working on this project. I hope no one takes any of it personally, but I had to crawl in my cave.

Secondly, I’d like to thank WordBK, FWMJ, Naturel, DamnKam, Matua, Seher, Optics, Blitz, and and anybody else who helped us out with the project even though they probably didn’t know it at the time (Sorry, again).

Thirdly, Go take a listen!
Details below:

Here’s my new release as 1/2 of the design and music collaboration team, The Stuyvesants! A project created, developed, and executed by myself, Algorythm, and Darien Victor Birks (Flwrpt). We brought our talents together to produce 25 instrumentals, t-shirts, logos and graphics which capture the sound and visuals of the 60′s and 70′s, an era that inspires so much of the music that we’ve grown to love. We’ve done this under the moniker “The Stuyvesants”, paying homage to our current place of residence, which is the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York.

Blitz — “Dying to Live”

Blitz - “Dyng to Live”

Check out this ill video of my homie Blitz featured on Dame Dash’s Creative Control website. The video was directed by Terence Nance and features John Forte as well. Good stuff.

Christian Scott on Jimmy Fallon

So my homie Chris sat in with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon the other day. Of course, I missed the original airing because of work (Yes, I work really late at night), but Chris sent me this this video of the show. The clip is edited down to just show the commercial intros and outros which to me are the best parts of the show. Ha.

Dude is an incredible producer, composer, & trumpeter. If you haven’t already, go pick up the record & check out his site while you’re at it!

It’s also pretty cool to see a record cover I designed on TV! #shamelessplug

What does music look like?

Like this:

It gets really interesting when the drums come in around 1:15.

It should also be noted that the guy that put this together, created it in Flash only using key frames — no Actionscript. Which is INSANE. I figured it was done with Processing or maybe After Effects.

(Shouts to my homie Cee-Note.)

S.L.H. & S.A.D.

I like to think that i’m pretty indifferent about Valentine’s Day — I’m not sure whether I love it or hate it. That said, here’s a couple of mixes for you to check out regardless of which side of the fence you’re on.

Sex, Love, & Heartbreak

Sex, Love & Heartbreak will definitely get you in the zone for either of those three things on the 14th!…hopefully not the heartbreak.

S.A.D. — Singles Awareness Day.

It’s here. Dedicated to all maneaters, heartbreakers, and hopeless romantics – you know who you are. Proceed to download. It’s an epic one, I think.
