2 things I hate about restaraunt websites

A) PDF Menus Suck

PLEASE stop converting your gigantic, over-designed, in-accessible menus into gigantic, over designed, in-accessible PDFs. Who wants to download all of that when you’re hungry and on the run? It really isn’t cheaper to link to a PDF, when you consider bandwidth. A simple Term Definition list would save tons of bandwidth AND its much more accessible with mobile devices(er, most non iPhone people).

B) Food > Flash

  1. PLEASE fire your Flash guy. He sucks. I have nothing against Flash but a restaurant is just a restaurant.
  2. Nix your site intros. Hunger doesn’t care about faux-3D animations, and background music. We want to know whats on the menu and in some cases what it looks like as quickly as possible.
  3. Mobile Phones hate Flash. If we can’t see your site on our phones, you’re probably losing out on some new business.

Its just now dawning on me that my portfolio site is in DESPERATE need of updating. So, I’ve taken the older bugger down and now I’m working on a new site that will be a lot faster and easier for me to update. A little Flash(CS3!), a little XHTML, some CSS and a slew of new work to gawk at. Gosta keep up with the times because that old site is over 2 years old which is like 30+ 9.23076923+ web years. Look out for the redesign coming over the next month.

CS3 in a Flash.

It finally happened! Adobe stepped in and finally fixed up the most loved to hate web authoring program EVER. People come to me all the time with requests for flash stuff, and off the Bat I let them know its a HORRIBLE program and try to convince them on alternative ways of getting it done(which are usually slim to none). Don’t get me wrong, It’s always been powerful as hell, and there’s almost limitless possibilities for creating web applications. But when you just want to sit down and bang out something routine, its a major pain in the A**. MAN. They’ve made so many MAJOR improvements to this program its astonishing. I cant wait to get my hands on it. But I’m broke as usual so we’ll see how long it takes for me to get it.
