So this weekend I made a last-minute decision to check out Spike Lee’s huge “Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson” event. Coming up on wash week, I figured it would be a good time to rock my new Stuyvesants tee. As soon as I got to the park I started catching random stares from people. At first, I attributed it to the usual doppelgänger, ‘you look familiar comments’ I’ve been getting from people since high school (#SMH). But then some dude came up to me asked about my shirt. A few minutes later another dude came up to me & asked to take a picture of me; er um — the shirt. Then a few ladies came up and inquired about it as well. This pretty much continued throughout the entire day. Needless to say, it seemed folks were really eying my shirt. Totally unexpected — but the best part about it was having a chance to put a few new people on to The Stuyvesants record. Hopefully, they’ll actually end up checking it out.

The project has been growing in a really organic way since we released it. People have been finding out about through all different types of outlets from twitter, to radio shows to plain ole word-of-mouth. 3 months later there still seems to be a good amount of people just now discovering it and showing love. That’s something neither me nor Darien ever expected. If you’ve mentioned the record to anybody at all — Thank You.

Anyways, I say all that to say that we’ve finally got a store; albeit a small store, set up for the Stuyvesants’ tees. Check it out here and maybe pick up the new shirt while you’re at it. If you catch a couple of stares from people you don’t know, make sure you put them on!

Oh & http://thestuyvesants.com

Sidenote: Happy Birthday Golnaz!

If Sean Combs-endorsed Ciroc is the vodka of choice in his home borough of Manhattan, then we suppose Brooklyn just adopted Spike Lee and Absolut to represent its buzz. Yep, you can now buy ABSOLUT BROOKLYN for just $24.99 at your local liquor store (the company will be giving $50,000 in sales to Habitat for Humanity for their effort to build affordable and environmentally sustainable housing in Bed-Stuy).

But what does Brooklyn taste like? We’re told “the new flavor is a blend of red apple and ginger and comes in a specially-designed bottle reminiscent of the ubiquitous Brooklyn Stoop Life.”

”Inspired and driven by what he saw as Hollywood patronizing black issues (eg The Color Purple) and the desire to see a world he recognized on screen, he got family and friends involved, came up with $175,000 and made this wonderful film. This is seat-of-the-pants, guerilla film-making, and the look of the film reflects that but hides none of its ambition or invention.” – dvdbeaver.com (don’t ask)

Timelss movie. Even if you’re not a huge spike fan. Good luck finding it though.
