Man, @darienbirks out-did himself with these sketches of him, me, Naturel & Travis — had to post these.
After the unexpected success and positive feedback from our first release, “Brooklyn’s Finest” (released 6/1/10), we’re back with our sophomore effort, “THE FINER THINGS” (volumes 1 & 2). Sonically we’re taking you on a completely different journey, however, the distinctive vibe of The Stuyvesants is still very present in the music! We truly appreciate all of the support for our movement thus far, and hope that you will enjoy this soundscape. Download and/or listen to the two albums below.
Both album covers were designed and illustrated by The Stuyvesants.
Today is the first day of summer and to get things started off right (despite the clouds hanging over BK right now), we put together a Single that captures the feeling of summer in Brooklyn with some help from Naturel — the third member of The Stuyvesants. BK Summers are always incredible from the BBQs, the cookouts, & the fish fries to the rooftop parties & random beach excursions. So take a listen, vibe out, and enjoy the summer…
So this weekend I made a last-minute decision to check out Spike Lee’s huge “Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson” event. Coming up on wash week, I figured it would be a good time to rock my new Stuyvesants tee. As soon as I got to the park I started catching random stares from people. At first, I attributed it to the usual doppelgänger, ‘you look familiar comments’ I’ve been getting from people since high school (#SMH). But then some dude came up to me asked about my shirt. A few minutes later another dude came up to me & asked to take a picture of me; er um — the shirt. Then a few ladies came up and inquired about it as well. This pretty much continued throughout the entire day. Needless to say, it seemed folks were really eying my shirt. Totally unexpected — but the best part about it was having a chance to put a few new people on to The Stuyvesants record. Hopefully, they’ll actually end up checking it out.
The project has been growing in a really organic way since we released it. People have been finding out about through all different types of outlets from twitter, to radio shows to plain ole word-of-mouth. 3 months later there still seems to be a good amount of people just now discovering it and showing love. That’s something neither me nor Darien ever expected. If you’ve mentioned the record to anybody at all — Thank You.
Anyways, I say all that to say that we’ve finally got a store; albeit a small store, set up for the Stuyvesants’ tees. Check it out here and maybe pick up the new shirt while you’re at it. If you catch a couple of stares from people you don’t know, make sure you put them on!

Sidenote: Happy Birthday Golnaz!
First off, I’ve got to apologize to anybody who I’ve had to lead off the scent by (white) lying to make this project happen as discreetly as possible. I also, have to apologize for some of the flakiness that some folks may have experienced from me during the final stages of working on this project. I hope no one takes any of it personally, but I had to crawl in my cave.
Secondly, I’d like to thank WordBK, FWMJ, Naturel, DamnKam, Matua, Seher, Optics, Blitz, and and anybody else who helped us out with the project even though they probably didn’t know it at the time (Sorry, again).
Thirdly, Go take a listen!
Details below:
Here’s my new release as 1/2 of the design and music collaboration team, The Stuyvesants! A project created, developed, and executed by myself, Algorythm, and Darien Victor Birks (Flwrpt). We brought our talents together to produce 25 instrumentals, t-shirts, logos and graphics which capture the sound and visuals of the 60′s and 70′s, an era that inspires so much of the music that we’ve grown to love. We’ve done this under the moniker “The Stuyvesants”, paying homage to our current place of residence, which is the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York.
