Very true Piet, but I think they'll get things right this time. I don't mind design overhauls as long as its done in the interest of better functionality. The last major admin design changes looked great but an easy to use Widgets panel was sacrificed. I have a feeling we won’t run into that type of thing in 2.7. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

What I cannot understand is why they opted for yet again a new interface instead of improving the exisiting one, which is, let us be honest, fairly new already?!

Thanks for the comment Matt. The first few 2.7 screenshots (from the earlier nightly builds) I saw were kind of scary, but I can see that its shaping into something VERY nice. The left navigation is still a bit unsettling to me but who am I to knock it before I try it? :) Looking forward to seeing the final version!

Thanks for the kind words and the honest critique, Allan. Adding a bit of sophistication, but making it feel even more like WordPress, was job #1 in the redesign. There's always been a little something old-school about WordPress, and I hope we recapture it with 2.7. I'll admit I was also skeptical of some of the changes to the UI at first, but have come around after experimenting heavily with the development branch over the past few weeks. I hope you'll have the same experience once you take the finished product for a spin. :)
