i have successfully uploaded (or so i think) the autofocus wp design, but i keep getting this error when trying to upload pictures from my computer now:

The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/sakridclothing.com/httpdocs/blog/wp-content.

    any thoughts?

      Thanks Jodi!
Looks like you need to CHMOD your wp-content folder to 777.
Contact your hosting company, and they should be able to do it for you if you don’t already know how.
      Here’s more info.

    hi Allan,

I must say that this is my favorite theme for my photoblog. It is so gorgeous.

    Quick question:
You know how on the main page how it shows thumbnails of photos from your posts from previous days… I want to make that into 6 squares instead of 5 just to balance things out. How do I do that?

    allanreyesphoto.com is my site…

    Thank you!

    Allan

Thanks Allan! (Nice name by the way lol)
Just go to SETTINGS > READING and change Blog pages show at most to 6 posts. I think 7 will be even out the bottom though.

      • Posted Apr 9, 2009 at 5:52 pm | Permalink

oh sweet thanks… i thought i had to change the code somewhere. it’s just there..lol

        thanks again!

now there are 6… but the last row is not the same width as the first two. how do i change this?

        • Posted Apr 9, 2009 at 8:12 pm | Permalink

          Hi Allan,
It’s much easier if you just use 7 images on the home page. Otherwise, you’ll need to pick up some CSS techniques.

          • Posted Apr 9, 2009 at 9:17 pm | Permalink

oh wow i’m so blind. i didn’t even notice that you said 7 when you first replied to me. my apologies.

thank you again for a great theme. i’ll be using this for a long time.

“me love this theme a long time”… lol

    Dear Sir
    Hi
thank you for your nice theme. i would be glad if you make some changes for users like me who do not have any attachment. but they like to take part a unique image in pieces and put each piece in the place instead of question mark or post attachment.
i mean, i prefer to divide an image into seven sub image- as your theme shows 7 post per page and permanently put the images into the places. but there is no need to load image in single page.

      Hi Omid,
If you’d like to change the default functionality of AutoFocus, you should look into theme development. Wish I could help more.

    hi Allan,
This is a really nice theme, congrats!

    I have a problem though…
If I upload say, 3 images in a post, how can I select which one of those I want to be shown in the main page, where are the most recent 7 posts ? I really don’t get the idea behind this algorithm and I searched everywhere and can’t get an answer

    • Posted Apr 10, 2009 at 4:51 pm | Permalink

      Thanks Ioto,
AutoFocus, pulls the last uploaded image for every post, so if you upload 3 images ie: 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, 3.jpg will be used as the main image on the home and single pages. Make sense?

      • Posted Apr 10, 2009 at 9:39 pm | Permalink

        Yup! Thanks a lot
I hope I’m not pushing it, but I’m curious… After the post is published, is there a way to change that image? :D
[maybe some value can be manually overwritten from phpMyAdmin]

        • Posted Apr 10, 2009 at 11:58 pm | Permalink

The latest image will always be be pulled, regardless of the post status. No need to edit phpMyAdmin.

Hi, it’s simply one of the best themes I’ve ever seen, so thx a lot for this! Despite this I got a question. Is there a simple step to disable the funtionality of showin the large version of every photo in the header of a single post?

    • Posted Apr 11, 2009 at 1:01 pm | Permalink

      Hi Olaf,
The simplest way is just to use CSS to hide the image and the copyright info.

I just started using your autofocus theme for a family photo site and love it! but when I upgraded to version 0.9.4, it only showed the 1 most resent post, and the image never loaded, it just showed the loading graphic. I downgraded back to 0.9.1 and it all works again. any ideas?

    • Posted Apr 15, 2009 at 2:37 pm | Permalink

      Hi Josh,
I am not sure why this is happening. Did you customize the 0.9.1 version somehow? Also, how are you adding images — From URL or From Computer?

Just a terrific theme. I’d like for the large white post date to disappear. I’ve been able to alter the code to get only a small gray box with the date at the top of the photographs. But I’d like the date to just disappear. Can you give me a hand?

    • Matt
      Posted Apr 18, 2009 at 12:08 am | Permalink

Tyler, to get rid of the date, edit the home.php file and get rid of

      <abbr class=”published” title=”">

Allan, this theme is really excellent. I do have a question for you (or anyone else), relating to Tyler’s question. How can I change the “bigdate” over the posts to instead show the Post’s title? I tried changing a couple things but it either disappears completely or does the small gray box’d date (like Tyler encountered).

I’m new at this. I’ve gathered that “bigdate” is the font/size/etc. referenced from the stylesheet. Beyond that I’m a little confused.

Keep up the great work :)

You’ll need to use instead of the date (the_time) template tag. More info here.

    hi allan!

i just love your theme. i just don’t know, why my first image on the main page is always a little too high up. can’t figure it out. do you have any idea?
thanks a lot for your help and your great work!

    greetings, birgit

    • Posted Apr 26, 2009 at 11:42 pm | Permalink

      Hi Birgit,
You probably need to add some text to the description under SETTINGS > GENERAL. Should be fixed in the next update.

  12. Posted Apr 29, 2009 at 4:51 pm | Permalink

    Allan,
This theme is not the only reason I am moving from Textpattern to WordPress but is certainly one of the reasons. It is elegant and strong.

I am not a photographer but an artist and the art presents wonderfully in the same way photos do.

Simple, limited edits to the templates have been quite easy using my text editor and SFTP.

One issue I am having is that all images are showing twice on the single pages. In some cases posts have migrated from my old wordpress.com blog but I do not see how that would be a problem. I have loaded fresh images into the new blog yet the same double image problem occurs.

Ideas? My thanks for a way around this glitch.

    • Posted Apr 29, 2009 at 6:00 pm | Permalink

      Thought I`d try something.

I moved the image to the Excerpt section. Two things happened. The double image problem was eliminated on the single pages where that change was made. However the rollover effect on the main page becomes badly messed on those posts where I did move the image to the except section.

In reviewing the links of those who posted above, among those who continue to use autofocus some sites have the same problem I do while others do not.

Again, your suggestions on how to fix this bug and bug it is because there has been no customization on my part in relation to this issue. Thanks Allan.

      Hi Owen,
Welcome to the WordPress community. Glad I could help convert you. LOL.
Your issue has been covered in previous comments here. Search through the comments and you’re sure to find a solutions.

  13. Posted Apr 29, 2009 at 6:31 pm | Permalink

On observation, two more things…I have now reviewed the DEMO blog straight through and note that you also have posts that double up on the images though they are older and therefore do not appear on your main page and therefore there are not images on the main page that are whacked on rollover.

Also I notice on my blog that when on a Category page the images and their rollovers are not affected by those posts where I have placed the image within the Excerpt section as is the case on the mainpage images and rollovers.

So, it is either a bug or it is something that you can tell us about in regard to how you place images within certain posts.

Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

    • Posted Apr 29, 2009 at 6:54 pm | Permalink

      Hi Owen,
I am not sure how you are using the_excerpt to display your images. AutoFocus isn’t really intended to be used that way so I can’t vouch for the results. As for the doubling image: browse through some of the previous comments and you should find some solutions. Really all you need to do is remove the doubled image from the post content. The next version of AutoFocus includes a fix that will eliminate the busy work of going through and deleteing the images from the post content by hand. The update is coming sometime this month.

        Hello Allen,
        thanks for the welcome.

Actually I did have a look through the comments here but I must have missed the relevant info so I will review it again and if I don`t see it here I will trudge through the (oh dear) 230 comments on the http://allancole.com/wordpress/themes/autofocus/ page.

Just to clarify, I do not really want to use Excerpts at all. Not interested only I thought to try it out as a possible “get around” solution. Thanks for taking the time respond. I’ll keep digging for the answer.`

Also, to clarify, when I have made a new post, in the Editor there are not two images showing, only the one I placed there yet on the public side of the blog, on a single page, the second smaller image is there. Confusing.

Once successful I will drop back `round and report in.
        Best regards.

    Allan,
I read through this complete comment thread again and what I read does not seem to address the bug I am noting.

In the close but no cigar category are:

    1) loto’s is intentionally loading multiple images, each of them different. I understand your answer for loto in terms of removal and subsequent automatic placement for display on the mainpage.

However my problem is that I am not in any way placing multiple, different images into the post but rather placing only one image in and finding it duplicated in smaller size in the single page display only (i.e. that smaller duplicate image does not appear in the post Editor).

    2) Unlike Olaf who doesn’t like the large image above the title on the single post page, I love it. I want to get that little bugger below gone.

    3) Omid and lower case allan want the world on a string. I want nothing that dangerous. Both those folks have moved on to other much less interesting designs. Having “converted” I shall prevail.

The other questions and answers, while interesting, don’t address my question.

If I have missed the answer you were pointing to would you point me directly to it? Thanks bunches. Off to plod through the 230 comments on the other post.

      Hey Owen,
Interesting. Could you post a link to an example of the smaller image on single posts?

      • Posted Apr 29, 2009 at 8:05 pm | Permalink

        Shiny. Here are two:
        1) Just upload this smashing photo of my 25 year significant other: http://onionboy.ca/blogofo/?p=734

        2) Now here is one that I migrated from my wordpress.com blog. A post which originally only ever had one image in it and still does within the post Editor but low and behold on the public side of the blog there are two images: http://onionboy.ca/blogofo/?p=579

Allan, we are now on the same page…now :)

What I ferreted out in reading the appropriate Codex page is that there is a big difference in the meaning of “attach” and image “to” a post and “upload/insert” an image into the content section of a post.

Before I saw your last comment on using the Add Media button in the Editor I was downloading and installing the http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-attached-image/ plugin and learning how to use it (which I see now is redundant because here in the latest version of WP that nifty little Add Media feature – one I have never used before – does the job).

Not your fault at all but I do think the wording on the *DEMO Page / usage / Posting* would be clearer. My (and I suspect others) misunderstanding of the difference between those two features was key to the creation of the gremline image.

Howsabout you add sentence and spelt it out “Simply create a post and use the WordPress image uploader to attach any high resolution(I recommend images higher than 800px) image(s) to your post. [EDIT BY ADDITION - In the Post Editor use the Add Media feature (the litte star shape) to attach your image to your post. You won't "see" your attached image anywhere in the Editor but it will be on your blog after you hit Save.] Write…”

That would have saved me hours. Speaking of time-in, you have been more than kind with your own time today on this. And among other pluses I have learned quite a bit more about the wonders of WP, visited some interesting blogs using the same theme and met a very generous and considerate theme designer and comment box host so I don’t see any of this as a loss. However, I do need a nap.

Thanks for the theme! I’m having an issue, though.

I uploaded several photos to a post but only one of them was copyrighted. The rest could be downloaded by anyone so I removed them. Weren’t all of them supposed to be copyrighted and protected on this theme?

    Thanks for the info!

    • Posted Jun 20, 2009 at 10:31 am | Permalink

      Hi,
The protection provided by this theme is very limited. Only the main post images have the semi-protection on them.

Nice looking theme. I’m currently testing it for the site linked under my name here.

Does the theme support widgets or is that broken with 2.8? I see widgets in the admin, but they don’t appear to work at all. I haven’t really done much with plugins or any other testing yet, but I really love the presentation and effect.

Just curious about widgets at this point. Any ideas?

This template has a great feel – very contemporary and cool.
I was keen to use it and recently updated my current template to this through the WordPress dashboard. However, all I can see are Question Marks where the images should be ‘?’ is there something really simple that I am overlooking – a common mistake? All other templates I have ever updated to through dashboard populate the fields AOK.
Any insight much appreciated as I’m keen to learn why this is occuring
    All the very best,
