AutoFocus 1.0.1 Now available!

autofocus-splash-101

Fixes:

  • Adds IE6 & IE7 support (still a work in progress but FAR better than before).
  • Fixes the ‘Leave a comment’ page jump link.
  • Fixes images on the home page using the blog formatted index.php template file.
  • Fixes image ‘floating’ issue in the front page template that broke the image alignment.
  • Improved static navigation arrows for an easier UX.
  • Now pulls the ‘large’ (800px wide) image instead of the full size image for CSS backgrounds on the homepage (Images loads faster as a result).
  • Adds EXIF Data to image attachment pages (However, Shutter Speed does not work).
  • Fixes borders and shadows for Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4.
  • Reworked comments section to include Pings.
  • New 404 template that adheres to the site’s format.

Download it here.

IMPORTANT: If you’ve made modifications to your AutoFocus theme, you may want to back up your current version before over-writing the files, so that you don’t lose anything.

A big thanks goes out to Walker for some insight into pulling EXIF data from images uploaded to WP.

Also thanks for all of the GREAT comments I keep receiving about AutoFocus. I really appreciate it! If you find any bugs or errors which is kind of inevitable, please be sure to leave a comment so that I can include fixes/corrections in the next update.

Hey, thanks for a such a stunning theme,
as well as posting photos, I post videos
Is there anyway for the blog to recognize that a video is embedded and put that where the large photo would usually go, instead of having a big gap?

I know this is a bit of a awkward question, but it would be superb!

    Thanks

    Jami

    Hi!

I’d like to change the Home label into News… I tried to change it on the header.php of your folder but nothing… any suggestion?

You have to make this change in the functions.php file. Look for this fucntion: sandbox_globalnav()

    Hey!
    Autofocus is awsome. Thanks.
I need to bug you a little bit. Is there any way to have like an “auto resample” or a auto resized image when clicked on main page? I am uploading full size picture to my server and when i click to see that picture i have full view. At the moment i am resizing all pictures. I dont know if u are understanding me. Sorry for my english. I’m from brazil. Thanks for autofocus.

      Hi Carlos,
If I understand you correctly, the theme should already be resizing the images for you. It helps if you upload slight compress images as opposed to full res, raw images directly from the camera. Hope that helps.

Hey Allan. Thanks for your intel. Its resizing and inserting watermark flawless. :)

Hi! I absolutely love your theme and I’m tinkering with it as I set up a photo blog. When I click to open a thumbnail using WP Pretty Photo, all my images seem to align about 10 pixels more to the left than they should. I’m fairly certain that it is the theme rather than the plugin that’s causing the issue. But I’m not sure exactly where I should be altering the alignment properties in my css. Any help on this would be much appreciated! Thank you :)

      Hi Tia,
Unfortunately, I can’t help you with this issue as I don’t know how well AutoFocus, will play with most plugins. I’m sure there’s a CSS file in the plugin folder that should get you started in the right place.

    Hey Allan,

Great theme!!! i’m having one issue..the images i’m using are 4288X2848 images. I’ve set the large setting to 800X600. But they show up as 800X591 and they seem fine except the front page is showing up with the question marks. Any idea? Am i’m doing something wrong?

      Hi Lee,
Is there a live example of this that I could check out? Sounds like you are doing everything right.

        Hey Allen,

well….i’ve been doing the same thing pretty much for past 3/4 days and have been getting the same issue. i went and deleted all the test pages and pictures and left it blank. i sent the comment, tried it again after you asked for live page…and it works….typical!! (http://leegonzalez.com/wp/)lol Sorry about the trouble. i was uploading the images from my D300 and nothing was working. I uploaded pictures from my small kodak point and shoot and it worked everytime. the images from the kodak come out at 3264X2448 which when uploaded show up in the large field as the 800X600. the D300 images came up with 800X591 which i thought would be the problem. Thank you again for the awesome theme, keep up the great work!!

        Thank you,

        LeeG

          Thanks Lee!,
I think WP has a tough time crunching super large images so it’s always a good idea to maybe shrink the images down a bit before bringing them into WP.

          Hey Allan,

How do i get portrait shots from being cut off and tiled on the front page. If you see the link i sent you, you’ll see something a bride probably doesn’t want everyone’s attention on (chest) lol.

    very nice theme.

I think theres a bug in the 1st center image code. the image overlaps a little on the right hand side.

also..how can I comment out the large date in each image.

    • Posted Aug 11, 2009 at 12:18 pm | Permalink

      Hi Fred,
That isn’t a bug. You just need to upload a larger image. Something around maybe 1024px wide works best.
You can set the .bigdate CSS selectors to display:none to hide the dates.

        thanx for the help.

one more thing. I can’t seem to adjust the widgets. I would really like to add on an admin feature in the top menu to logon. any help would be appreciated.

I plan on using this theme more then once because of it’s simple and very classy approach…

          Hi!

In the home.php file, remove the following line:

          <abbr class="published" title="”>

That will take care of it permanently. Hope this helps everybody….

          Cheerio!

    Hi Allan,
thank you for this great theme!
I have a question that might be really stupid, I know, I’m really new to html… kinda started today! :)
I would like to use your layout to build an online portfolio rather than a blog, and I was wondering if there is a way not to show the date of the entry on the pictures of the homepage, and possibly also inside the post.
Oh God I feel like when my mum calls “walkman” the Ipod.
    Thanks for your help!

Not sure if this is a customization question, but is there a way to make the post’s main image link to say a larger version or another page?

    Thanks!!

    Hey Allan,
Many thanks for the improved Autofocus. After scouring the Net this theme has been my fav for at least the past two months. A great balance of functionality and style, light weight and elegant.
Wondering how to change the date posted stamp on the images on the main page to a post title stamp. So rather than reading the date that the entry was posted, it would read the title of the post???
I’ve included the site I’m working on.
    Cheers!

      Hi Nath,
You will have to modify the theme itself to change the dates(the_date) to titles(the_title). Try this search.

    Hi Allan,
Thanks for your really GREAT job, GREAT theme.

I have a little question: Is there an easy way to alter ‘home.php’ file in order to only show posts which have one category label/tag (ex: frontpage)…or in other words: is there a way to display only 5 or 6 photos on the front page of the site (always the same ones)

Thanks. And sorry for my english…i’m frenchy…;o)

Thank you for the great autofocus template. I am brand new to wordpress, but am just wondering how I can simply add a menu line “about us” under the Home and RSS nav menu’s. I have looked all over and can’t figure out where to add this menu/

Can you give more info on how to remove the image from the top of every individual post that is automatically placed there? You advised to insert the following code under the /* =single */ section of the stylesheet.

    .single .full-photo {display:none;}

This has not changed anything for me. Am I missing something? The look I am going for can be seen at…

    I love Auto-Focus.

Any way that I could make the pictures from my posts randomly jumble after a certain amount of time on my main page?

      Great work from Brooklyn :]

I love your themes. They carry simplicity in a very clean & nice look. AutoFocus is exactly what I was looking for. With some help, I was able to work out a few bugs and it’s been pretty good so far.

I have plans to use one of the others for my portfolio.

Keep the updates and improvements coming.

I’ve got one question tho. How can I set what picture apears on the frontpage? Can’t change it by reordering the gallery in the post.

    Any other idea?

    Thanks in advance!

      Hi MecuzIcan,
AutoFocus pulls the last uploaded image, To change the image on the front page, simply upload a new image to a post.
