Check out the new & improved AutoFocus+!
A derivative of Futurosity Aperio Prototype by Robert Ellis, AutoFocus is a WordPress theme specifically for photographers looking for a simple and elegant way to display their work online.
Demo
All of the photos used in the demo were shot by Ouxu Cheng (used with permission).

Download (version 1.0.1)
Installation
Simply download/extract the zip file and upload the resulting ‘autofocus’ folder to your WordPress themes folder. Then navigate to APPEARANCE > THEMES and activate AutoFocus.
Usage
Settings
Before uploading new images, go to SETTINGS > MEDIA page. Set the LARGE Max Width to 800 and the Max Height to 600.
Posting
Simply create a post and use the WordPress image uploader to attach any high resolution(I recommend images higher than 800px) image(s) to your post. Write the content for your posts, just like any regular blog post. Hit PUBLISH and you’re done! The attached images are placed into the photo area automatically which means no custom fields required! UPDATE: AutoFocus, pulls the last uploaded image for every post, so if you upload 3 images ie: 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, then 3.jpg will be used as the main image on the home and single pages.
As an alternative, you may also use the “From URL” option on the WordPress Media Uploader to link to images hosted elsewhere (flickr, photobucket, etc.) When you post images this way, AutoFocus will automatically generate the custom fields required for the posts to display properly.
You can place images in your post’s content and you can use the gallery shortcode in posts without any issues.
UPDATE: If you are getting weird gallery shortcode CSS in your excerpts on the home page and archives, simply add some text to the Excerpt content area of your post and all should be well.
Layout
This theme also comes with a more generic 1 column Blog layout. To activate it, simply delete or rename the home.php file.
Sidebar
The sidebar for this theme is included as a template for use on an ‘Archives’ page. To activate the sidebar, create a page called ‘Archives’ for example and select the Archives Page Template. This template pulls in the 2 sidebars that sit right on top of each other.
Features
- Images are automatically placed into posts. No need to use Custom Fields.
- Psuedo-Image protection. All of the images are protected from download with an invisible layer of HTML that prevents users from Right Clicking and Saving the image directly. Similar to how flickr does it.
- 2 Front page layouts. Photo Layout (home.php) and Blog Layout (index.php)
- Works with WordPress for iPhone (resize images must be turned OFF.)
FAQ
Known Issues
This theme has not been completely browser tested. AutoFocus looks best in Safari and Firefox on Mac ( As all sites do :-) ), but it should hold up pretty well on PCs. IE6 doesn’t like this theme AT ALL so of you absolutely need your site to be consistent on IE6 you probably should go with another theme. I am working on bug fixes for this but at the moment, it is not a major priority.

Terrific theme. Truly amazing.
Sometimes when create posts with several pictures in a gallery the front page has trouble creating a thumbnail for the link. See my site now (www.waese.com) and you’ll see how it’s getting stuck trying to create an image for the final post on the page (backdated to 2004). If I adjust the date to make that the most recent post, the whole page gets stuck and nothing will load.
Any thoughts on how I can get the image to load?
Thanks!
Jamie

Hi Allen,
I usually don’t ask those questions, but after nearly 5 hours searching I have to: On the Archive Page I see the headline, the “go to” names, all tags, the nav & the WP, Sandfox & Autofocus letter all in a light blue (MAC color picker says #0066cc. I have searched overall and the style.css especially 3, 4, 5 times – nothing. Any idea where this light blue discription code is hidden?
Thx a lot for any assistance befor I’ll get totally crazy ;-)
1 – the rss feed allows people to pull images. Is it possible to not have RSS ?
2 – is it possible to put the image protect on the rss feed ?
Hi.
I have a question, that I hope Allan(or anyone) can answer. I seem to have done something very wrong with my photoblog. The “home”(now “hem”, swedish…) link/button, up in the right of the screen refers to picturelakefoto.se instead of picturelakefoto.se/blogg. I’ve googled this and tried to come up with a solution but can’t seem to find any that makes sense. If I use ftp to connect to my host my blog resides in a folder called “blogg”. So, the blogg is NOT installed to the root(picturelakefoto.se). So, that doesnt seem to be the problem. If i look at my general settings both the wordpressurl and the blogadress are http://www.picturelakefoto.se/blogg, and they are greyed out, so I cant change anything there.
I guess the problem is that I’ve done something…but I cant for the life of me remember what, that has caused this problem.
To sum it up: I want my “home”(hem) link to point to the startpage of the blog – not picturelakefoto.se
Any Ideas?
Hi,
Loved your theme when I saw it and downloaded the trial version. It gave me in error, saying that the them is broken : Template is missing. Then I paid for Pro and it gives me the same error: Template is missing. WordPress version is the latest (2.9.2.) I have no problems with other themes. Any advice would be great, so I can use it.
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Michael,
Sounds like you skipped over the first two instructions.
Please read through the entire documentation before using the theme.
Best,
Allan
Hey Allan,
Thanks for the answer. Yes, totally my fault by not following the instruction. RTFM. As always. Now I need to work this thing out until it looks good to be my next version blog version .
Thanks again.
Michael
Allan,
i’m new to this game. i love the theme, and will be downloading the newer version, indeed.
this is my first web page ever, so this may seem like a stupid question but…
when i try to post a recent post to facebook it doesnt show the content, just says “content” and also doesnt show a thumbnail. how do i control this? or if you could point me in the right direction. maybe this is on facebook’s end??
thanks again..
Leah
Ciao Allan:-)
Just a question: to activate the plugin Feed, are there any specific indications?
I’ve already downloaded and activated it, but I guess there’s another step to do to make it visible?….
Thanx!
Silvia
Hi Allen,
Everything works great and I have spent some time to make some typographic refinements and style changes locally before I make the theme active. What I can’t figure out is how I can change the style of the left and right side arrows to another arrow (i.e. >>) or even to “next” or “previous.” Can you give me a hint? That would be great.
Thanks much in advance.
Michael
Those arrows aren’t images, they’re custom html characters.
Here’s a list of such characters — http://bit.ly/Ljsdq
The left and right arrows are &larr and &rarr , respectively.
You can replace them in your thematic-functions.php.
How do I make the navigation arrows go higher up? I’ve added a picture in the header, now the arrows are too far down.
Btw. Thanks for a brilliant theme!
Kasper.
Hello, I have a problem with the blog template page. As you said, I have crated a page named blog and selected the blog template. Under Autofocus+ options I checked the blog category to be excluded from the home page but when I create a new post under the blog category It appears on the blog page (perfect), but also on the home page… what I am doing wrong?. By the way, I had Autofocus 1.0.1 before and I love it but this new one it is just the best in the world! I just need to fix this issue with the blog.
Thanks a lot in advanced.
@testaQuente
As i understand the blog template is only fully functional on the Autofocus+ PRO version.
Thank you very much for this great template! That is exactly what i have been looking for.
